Obituaries

    This database has been updated to over 100,000 names of persons whose obituaries or death notices are in the Sioux Valley Genealogical Society Library. These obituaries are from the Hills of Rest Cemetery and other miscellaneous Cemetery records, Funeral Home Records, Pioneer Certificate Application Files, Correspondence Files and other miscellaneous files, and the Sioux Falls "Argus Leader" as well as obituaries that have been sent to the society to be included in their files. The Sioux Falls "Argus Leader" is a regional newspaper so there are obituaries from southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa as well as
a large region in South Dakota. This is an on-going project and additional names will be added as they are indexed.
    To request a copy of an obituary send $3.00 (add $1.00 for each additional obituary) to: Researcher, Sioux Valley Genealogical Society, 200 W 6th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57104-6001.
    Check the web site often to see if the obituary you are looking for has been added. If you have any questions or obituaries that are not on the data base and would like them included, please send copies of them to: Obituary Committee, Sioux Valley Genealogical Society, 200 West 6th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57104-6001.
    The Obituaries can be viewed in the SVGS Library, 200 West 6th St., Sioux Falls. The library is open Monday thru Friday from 12 noon to 4 pm.
