BEGINNING GENEALOGY CLASS

(Across from Cleveland School)
This class is taught by members of the Sioux Valley Genealogical Society Education Committee. It is not only for those just beginning their genealogical research but for the more experienced researcher wanting to review basic research techniques.
Topics to be covered include:
Forms: Learn how to correctly fill out forms such as Pedigree Charts, Family
Sheets, Research Logs and others plus their value in research.
Home Sources: Learn about items that you may already have in your home that are very helpful in your research.
Vital Records: Learn what Vital Records are, where to find them and how
to use them in your research.
Census Records: Learn about the differences and pitfalls in the
Census Records.
Land Records: Learn the value of deeds and the difference between a Land
Patent, a Deed and Recorded Deed.
Wills and Probates: Learn how to locate a WilI and why it is important to
look at the Probate Record.
Examples of all the above will be shown.
Other research tips will be given, including using computers for genealogy. Time will be allowed for your questions.
Doors open, and registration begins at 9:00 AM. Use the door on the lower level at the northwest corner of the building (off 17th Street).
